There are some situations where your tooth cannot accept a traditional filling. If you’re suffering from moderate to severe decay, a traditional dental filling may weaken the tooth structure and eventually lead to loss of the tooth. However, patients can still receive a successful restoration with porcelain inlays/onlays. Inlays cover the interior biting surface of the tooth, while onlays extend over the cusps to the exterior surface of the tooth. These ceramic restorations are permanently bonded to the tooth and strengthen the integrity so additional support with a crown is not needed.
